Henuac Project – New Tools for the Accessibility

The computer programme launched by the Council of Jaén, Inmerso and the ONCE Foundation will show the accessible routes in the villages with less than 20.000 people (population) in Jaén province.

Moises Muñoz, president of the provincial administration, emphasized this programme in a press conference. The Council of Equality and Social Welfare, Micaela Navarro, the manager of Inmerso, Purificación Causapié and Lucía Lucas, the technical manager of Biestable, also attended the event. Biestable has carried out this project.

The president said that if we want to see the urban routes and the main buildings which don’t have accessibility problems, or to find other information such as services, cultural and touristic resources, we should go to this website: www.dipujaen.es/henuac.

Lucía Lucas, manager of Biestable, said that the website offers a map and information about the different villages and geographical elements. In addition, the users can get information about street signs, enabling them to calculate the most accessible route; similar to using the Google “Street view” tool, which shows us real images of the villages. Likewise, the website has a citizen participation tool. In this section, people can contribute their opinions about the non-accessible points.

During the presentation, Causapié pledged that Inmerso would collaborate on these initiatives. Henuac is also included in the Action Plan of People with Disabilities of the Spanish Government. This program will simplify the life of people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, Navarro has referred to the collaboration of the Government and Institutions with the accessibility plans. She said that Andalusia has had the most success with these types of programmes, even though they have still not reached their goals.

In Andalusia, Jaén is the province where these programmes have had most implementation. In our province, 96 of 97 villages have finished their plans. The Council said that they have invested 900.000 Euros developing the Accessibility Plans. The politicians said that we work to should build without barriers instead of break down barriers.
